Nampa & District Municipal Library

Ten dollars and concern for the children in the area brought the Nampa Community Library into being. A public Library was first suggested at a Women’s Institute meeting, and a committee of two broached the subject at the next Home School meeting. Since a great deal of interest was shown, the project was begun

Though the library was now able to stock the shelves, a building was needed. The Village council purchased a two room building for an office. Arrangements were made enabling the community library to use one room for a yearly rent of forty dollars, which would cover the cost of light and heat.

In 1969 the Village office was moved to its present site. The building consists of the Village office and the fire hall. The library was in the back of the building in a small room. The Village knocked out some small walls and added more floor space, some fluorescent light fixtures, a rear entrance door, and a sidewalk to the rear entrance. The Lions Club supplied the material and labour for the new shelves.

When the new complex was built, a room was designated for the library. The Library board applied for a major Cultural Recreation Grant through Parks and recreation. The grant had to be matched with equal funds, so the whole area contributed a share to match the $5,211.04. With a lot of help, a complete new library was furnished in the complex. A grand opening was held on February 9, 1979. In September 6, 1986 The Library moved again at new building Arts and Crafts Center. Nampa now boast of one of the finest libraries in the north for a community of its size with a new building .
